![]() It was populated by bestial quasi-organic war machines instead of the mechanical automatons we'd seen before, but all of that was arguably a subversion of the Forerunner's identity. Requiem's architecture was defined by harsh, contrasting colors and visual clutter and organic curves. Those subversions actually strengthen an identity because they still pay homage to it, and maybe explore why that identity exists and what ties its disparate elements together.Īn identity is ignored when new themes and new visual motifs are introduced, and the old ones are forgotten entirely. An identity can be subverted and played against type, like if a Brute commander is a brilliant and cynical leader or a Forerunner general is murderous and insane. Granted, these identities can grow stale if they're played absolutely straight with no imagination (Hurr hurr, Elites are all mindless slaves to Shane Wallace Honor* and Prophets shout "Heresy!" at everyone who dares bring them bad news) but the identities are worthless if the writers ignore them. And because we know all of this, every new installment of the franchise doesn't have to devote several chapters to establishing it. We know that the Covenant is rigidly caste-based and devout, we know the typical relationship between each of the species, and we know the tenets of the Covenant faith regarding things like technology and heretics. When the writer establishes that these characters are members of the Covenant, that should raise expectations in the reader that the writer can build upon or subvert. The UNSC, Covenant, and Forerunner all have an identity that encompasses motivations and themes and visual motifs, and that identity is a powerful tool in the hands of a good writer. There needs to be some sort of continuity from the old Covenant loyalists, whether it's a continuation of leadership or ideology. ![]() Opinions? If it happens I'll be sure to share, give you all the horrible mental images of our favorite characters as FloodĬlick to shrink.I'm going to get meta here and say that a faction that adopts the name of an earlier faction should adopt more than just the name. Killed: Player1, Player2, Player3, Player4, Player5, Player6 Killer: Player2, Player3, Player4, Player5, Player6 (Player1) is cornered by the Flood forms of (his/her1) fellow contestants, and is torn to shreds. (Player1) is found by Flood Combat Forms of (Player2) and (Player3) and is torn to shreds. (Player1) injures (Player2) and leaves (him/her2) to the Flood. (Player1) could not find a bunker and is killed by the Halo pulse (Player1) finds a comfy bunker and chills till the arena is cleaned. The Flood are released into the arena, the contestants have 3 hours to find a bunker to survive the Flood, as well as the Halo pulse at the time limit I'd note this is the SPV3.0 release, the current one is 3.2 or something, and they put back in the bit with Johnson and updated the models a bit more (MC's armor is a lot more in line with the FUD appearance now), and maybe a couple other things.ĮDIT: Oh, awesome! I just got to "Truth and Reconciliation", and you know how in the books it wasn't regular marines hitting it, it was ODSTs? Well guess who's along for the ride on this one? It also adds in brutes and reworks enemies (there were some stealth elites in there now, and some other ones armed with pistols and genades instead of rifles), and it has the same weapons from CE with some minor tweaks (the AR is more accurate, but has a smaller clip, and it also fires faster the longer you hold down the trigger), it adds in ones from later games (the DMR from reach and the SMG, which I think is basically a reskin of the CE version of the MA5). For example I just got through the first level, and in addition to being absolutely huge now (and if fact I think there are several different routes you can take now), it also has some areas where the gravity has failed and you fight through in mostly zero g, turrets scattered around the ship you can turn on and off. ![]() It's a mod for halo CE that adds in a ton of mechanics, weapons, and enemies from later games or that were cut from CE, and massively expands the levels. ![]()
